These papers are from the District Court Records of Brazoria County, which are now housed at the Brazoria County Historical Museum in Angleton, Texas. Brazoria County had the first district Court and was the Court of Admiralty for the new Republic of Texas. These documents are in reference to capture of  the Mexican trading schooner Pelícano, by the Texas Navy ship Liberty in 1836. Thus, the Republic of Texas  gained 300 kegs of gunpowder that was concealed in barrels of flour, apples, and potatoes aboard the Pelicano.  Please click on each image to access the full sized document.  Documents courtesy of Adm. Michael Bailey, Curator, Brazoria County Historical Museum.
