WELCOME! I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit the Texas Navy Association and explore our website. I am Admiral Scott Powell the 2025 President of the Texas Navy Association (also known as the TNA).

The missoin of the association is to preserve and promote the little known but gallant history of the 1835-1846 Texas Navy.


The TNA funds museum exhibits, educational videos, history teacher education, Texas history curricula and educational events, along with events commemorating the Texas Navy and its role in Texas History. 


The TNA membership all come together with the like-minded interest in historical Research,   and promotion of the love of Texas History with focus on the Texas Navy.  If you have an interest in our mission, then reach out and join us or make a donation now or send a check to 6341 Stewart Rd., #102, Galveston, Texas 77551 that helps make a difference to support the historic and gallant Texas Navy.


We are a Non-Profit Corporation, Chartered in the State of Texas and administered by an elected Board of Directors, providing oversight to the matrix structure of our operating Committees. The TNA is a Volunteer organization. The TNA is funded thru the collection o f Member annual Dues, Donations and Grants. Your membership and donations are the primary funding source for funding our museum exhibits, educational videos, history teacher education, Texas history curricula, and events commemorating the Texas Navy and Texas History.

It is through this education and presentation of our history that we assure our future generations have an appreciation of how Texas became the great State it is.

The mission of the Texas Navy Association is to preserve and promote the little known but gallant history of the 1835-1846 Texas Navy.  The Texas Navy, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and contributions are usually deductible depending on your individual tax situation.

Congratulations to Cecil Higgs IV

2025 TNA Essay Contest Winner!

Cecil F. Higgs IV lives in Sugarland and is a student at Logos Preparatory Academy, where he has studied for the past seven years and first learned about the Texas Navy Essay Contest. He enjoys basketball, chess, and robotics, and is active with his family at Cornerstone Community Bible Church. Cecil is known for his energy, helpful spirit, and willingness to support those around him.


Awards:

The local Squadron awards a $100 gift card as a prize for its winning essay. The winner and his or her parents are asked to attend a Squadron luncheon and meeting to read the winning paper to the Squadron. The parent’s contact information is important in case an emergency arises, and the student is unable to attend. This will ensure that the Squadron knows where to send the gift card and certificate.

The State winner receives a $500 gift card and certificate and is asked to read his or her winning essay at the Fall TNA Board of Directors meeting on November 8, 2025. The winner and his or her parents will be provided with a room at the hotel where the meeting takes place, provided that the student lives 50 miles or more from the hotel. The hotel room will be provided on the Friday before the Saturday Board of Directors meeting. Three seats will be provided at lunch for the student and two guests. The Texas Navy is not responsible for other expenses incurred to attend the BOD meeting to receive his or her award.

Winning an essay contest will look good on any future resume, whether it be for college or employment.

55 pts.-HISTORICAL ACCURACY

10 pts.-CLARITY OF ESSAY, Is grammar clear? Is spelling and punctuation, correct?

10 pts.-ORGANIZATION-Is the essay original, interesting, well organized
